TPEG stands for Transport Protocol Experts Group which basically means it provides information on traffic jams. Samsung SGH-P940 puts a twist on conventional flip phones.

May 7th, 2007, posted in Samsung

Samsung SGH-P940Samsung has always done a great job of making quality handsets in sleek small frames. The latest addition to the Samsung line is the Samsung SGH-P940 which makes its claim to fame by sporting the ability to display mobile TV via the DVB-H support and swivel screen. I have been seeing more and more of these swiveling screens and really have to ask if we really need such a feature, I mean sure I guess it looks cool but have we really become so lazy we don’t want to turn the phone on its side?

Either way, this triband phone contains a 2.15″ TFT display and also features a 2mp camera, mp3 playback, video, and HDSPA

Thin is In - Alltel gets the Samsung Wafer

May 4th, 2007, posted in Samsung

Samsung Wafer SCH-R510Looks like Alltel is looking to beef up its line of phones, this time with a thin little handset from Samsung called the Wafer. Basically the Samsung SCH-R510 is almost identical to the T-Mobile trace only instead of GSM, this one is naturally CDMA. The wafer weighs in at a measly 2.7 ounces and a decent looking black finish. Lets not forget the 1.3mp camera, Axcess TV, Axcess Mobile Guide, XM Radio Mobile and celltop widget setup all for $49 bucks. Not a bad deal for small sleek low end phone.

Samsung SGH-i400 - Big Bang, Small Package

May 3rd, 2007, posted in Samsung

Samsung SGH-i400
Well I am guessing the SGH-i400 from Samsung is not going to be released in America (as usual). The phone has some really decent potential though, running GPRS/Edge tri-band (900/1800/1900) and sporting a 2.3″ VGA TFT 262k color display. An integrated 2megapixel camera, bluetooth A2DP connectivity, dual speakers, dedicated music keys, Micro SD slot (up to 4gb)… Seriously Samsung has once again crammed almost everything but the kitchen sink into a nice little handheld. Unfortunately the i400 is not 3g but that shouldn’t bother Europe and Asia when it hits their markets soon… I cant seem to find any information on pricing yet but I will keep you posted.

Dual hinge design patents from Samsung

April 5th, 2007, posted in Samsung

Samsung LogoAccording to Phonescoop.com, Samsung was grated a patent this week for a new hinge design. The dual hinge will allow 1 half of the clamshell to rotate a full 360 degrees. Which means you can flip the screen over to close either way. I remember my college roommate had a Sony Clie that had a screen that would rotate like hat.

The idea is that both sides of the screen would have different buttons and interfaces and you would spin it open depending on what you were doing. Phonescoop mentiones the E90 but I am thinking more like N95 flip phone action only it rotates all the way around.

Anyway combined with Samsungs ability to make freakishly thin phones, this sounds like a patent I could actually get excited about.

Samsung Ultra Video is so sexy.

April 3rd, 2007, posted in Samsung

Samsung F500 Ultra VideoI posted about the Samsung Upstage (Also known as the Samsung Ultra Music Phone) and as promised here is the Samsung Ultra Video Phone to be released only in Europe (as of now). I am assuming that if the Upstage does well then his big brother might make the trip overseas but I wouldn’t bet on it.

The phone is a lot like the Upstage in that it has two screens and two sets of inputs on each side. There is a switch on the side of the phone toggling the screen from one side of the phone to the other. So you dial on a small screen just like the Upstage and then flip the switch and have music and video controls on the other side, also just like the Upstage.

So, you may be asking, what is the difference? Well boys and girls, as you can probably see from the photo the Samsung Ultra Video (also known as the F500) actually pivots or swivels from one corner of the phone so that you can actually sit the phone on a table, or maybe your in flight platform thing on a plane, and watch yourself some movies without having to prop up the phone.

Samsung Upstage makes you do a double-take

April 1st, 2007, posted in Samsung

Samsung UpstageSo it looks like Samsung will be releasing its Ultra Music phone here in the US; Now named the Samsung Upstage SPH-M620. From what I have been reading it looks like this phone may be carried by Sprint in the near future but I am sure you will be able to import one of these bad boys to work with T-Mobile or other network. The most interesting thing about this phone is the double sided setup. One side of the phone looks like a simple standard Samsung with a small wide screen just big enough for phone numbers; but flip the switch on the side of the phone and the screen goes off, you flip the phone over to reveal a larger second screen on the other side of the phone made for music and video control.

This whole double sided thing reminds me of the Nokia I just mentioned in my last post, but once again this looks like a nice little low end phone with MP3 and music as a main attraction (are we seeing a trend here?). Personally I think this phone is ok but I will wait for the Samsung Ultra Video to hit the streets, something about the chrome details and the swiveling screen gets me all hot and bothered.

What do you guys think? Is this phone hot or not?
